Yahoo to Launch Flickr Video Next Month:

“MarketingVox reports that Yahoo plans to debut Flickr Video in beta next month.

Since one in three videos viewed in the US are hosted by YouTube, the new service is expected to face significant competition. Yahoo folded Yahoo Photos into Flickr after its purchase of the site. But apparently it has no intention of doing the same with Yahoo Video, which garnered 3.2 percent of video views in January. Product Manager Kakul Sriastava told CNET’s Dan Farber that Yahoo Video and Flickr are seen as separate audiences, and that Flickr will introduce video in an ‘authentic’ way to woo its 23 million contributors to use it. Last summer, Flickr was rated the #2 photo site in the US. Plans to bring video to the offering began circulating around the same time.

CNET’s Dan Farber pinpoints the key challenge for Flickr Video: ‘The problem for Yahoo is that many Flickr members, like myself, have gone to other places to share videos.’ Flickr needs to add an innovative feature, a true differentiator to win them back. What could that be?”
